The JWS portfolio is a focused and complementary collection of French wines selected for their classic expression of terroir in both well-known and emerging appellations. The company’s principal objective is finding special people making special wines in special places and bringing these wines and their winemakers’ stories to those who will appreciate them in the U.S.
Jeff Welburn is the Owner and President of the highly successful California wholesale distribution company Angeles Wine Agency, which he founded in 1991. JWS began as the direct importing arm of AWA, but now operates as a completely independent importer and national marketer of fine French wines. Welburn, longtime Angeles French Portfolio Manager Peter Poulos and France-based associate Christian Vergier were joined in January 2008 by former Vintage ’59 Imports partner John O’Neill. These four French wine professionals share a common mindset with each other and the winemakers they represent.
The JWS shared quality-over-quantity philosophy limits the company focus to vignerons who take a natural and sustainable approach in the vineyard, a non-manipulative approach in the cellar, and the careful attention to detail necessary to capture the unique character and nuance of their respective terroirs. These are the gifted artisans whose wines become Jeff Welburn Selections.
