Peter Poulos is highly regarded both personally and professionally at all levels of the wine industry. His career parallels that of Jeff Welburn, as the two men have worked most of the past two decades together. A Virginia native, Peter moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music and attend UCLA. After graduation, he met JW and decided to turn his avocation into a vocation.
In the late 1980’s, Peter and Jeff began to broker upstart California brands such as Qupé, Au Bon Climat, Alban and Pahlmeyer. They soon branched into their mutual passion, French wines, taking on the Burgundy-rich portfolio of Neal Rosenthal and the Châteauneuf-du-Pape collection of Alain Junguenet.
Peter returned to the east coast to work the DC/Virginia wine markets for a year, but after a harsh Mid-Atlantic winter, he was back in sunny SoCal joining Jeff in his new venture, Angeles Wine Agency. As Sales Manager for Angeles, Peter expanded the distribution company statewide in 1995. In 2001, Jeff launched his own direct import business and Peter’s focus shifted exclusively to France. For the past seven years, he has served as both French Portfolio Manager for Angeles and National Sales Manager for Jeff Welburn Selections.
